Antivirus developer Norton plans buy Avast

American NortonLifeLock is negotiating the purchase of antivirus developer Avast, created by Czech programmers who have become billionaires.

American information security software developer NortonLifeLock (formerly Symantec) is in talks to acquire Czech antivirus company Avast. If negotiations are successful, the deal will be officially announced in July.

Both companies have confirmed they are discussing the deal, Reuters reports. Avast added that NortonLifeLock plans to pay for it in cash and shares. However, the Czech company is not sure that they will be able to agree on all the parameters.

The amount of the deal was not disclosed. However, according to experts, it could amount to about $ 8 billion. Avast has a market value of $ 7.2 billion. The company’s revenue in 2020 reached $ 893 billion, and the number of active users – up to 435 million.

If the merger is agreed, the result will be a clear leader in the information security software market.
