Soon after the cyberattack, a fire broke out at the facility, as a result of which 400 thousand people were left without electricity.

San Juan, Puerto Rico, energy company Luma Energy reported a DDoS attack. It is noteworthy that soon after the cyberattack, a fire broke out at the facility , as a result of which there was a massive power outage throughout the island and 400 thousand people were left without electricity.

State and federal law enforcement agencies are “investigating the explosion of the substation.” Officials did not say if they were investigating the link between the fire and the cyberattack.

LUMA is a joint venture between Quanta Services and Canadian power company ATCO, which was selected by the government of Puerto Rico to take over the power grid from its previous state-owned utility PREPA.
